Capacity Building

Workshops:

Workshops play a crucial role in supplementing academic learning with practical application, enriching the educational experience.

• One day Teacher training program in collaboration with Nutrition department Under DBT Star College scheme was organized on 18th December,2023. Science School Teachers representing different schools attended the workshop.
• Mrs.Malathi Varma attended the one-day workshop on Oven fresh Delights on 2nd Feb, 2024 organised by the Department of Nutrition at St. Francis Degree College for Women, Begumpet.
• Hands on training were given for the final year students on Antioxidant Assay-DPPH method by Dr.Kiran Gangarapu professor, School of pharmacy, Anurag University, Hyderabad on Feb 24th 2023.35 students and 4 staff from Biochemistry and 3 staff from Chemistry attended the workshop.
• Workshop on Protein separation Technique SDS-PAGE was conducted for interested second and third year Biochemistry students on Feb 25th 2023 by Mr.Suraj Kumar Meher, Senior Research fellow, CCMB, Hyderabad.20 students and 4 staff attended this workshop.
• Ms. Malathi Varma attended a 2-day FDP program on “Bibliometric Analysis & Systematic Literature Review” conducted by Vignan Jyoti Institute of Management, Bachupally dated 6th Jan- 7th Jan 2023.
• Dr. Kanchana attended “Symposium on Electronics for self-reliance” on 16th 17th February 2023 organised by University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.
• Ms. Malathi Varma attended workshop on video editing on 24th February 2023 at St Francis College for Women. Begumpet, Hyderabad.
• Dr.G.Sony attended Short term Course on Statistical Packages for Data Analysis organised by UGC-HRDC Osmania University from Aug 24th 2022-Aug 30th 2022.
• Ms. Malathi Varma attended a five-day conference on ‘Second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress, conducted from 10th-14th Oct 2022, Hyderabad.
• All the staff of the Department attended the online Workshop on E-content Development conducted by E-content development cell of St. Francis college for women on 3rd Dec 2022. The resource person was Dr.Vimal Gerald, Assistant Prof ,St. Joseph College, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
• A 4 day International FDP was organised by Departments of Biochemistry, Microbiology & Biotechnology in Collaboration with American Corner,Hyderabad from 27th Oct to 30th Oct 2021. It was an international workshop on “Effective Teaching of STEM courses online”.

Seminars:

Seminars foster a culture of learning beyond textbooks, encouraging critical thinking and practical application of theoretical concepts.

• Dr.S.Kanchana attended online workshop on “Basic Artificial Intelligence tools for Educators” conducted by IGNITE life Skill Academy, Sacred Heart college, Thevara, Kochi on 29th Feb 2024.
• Ms.Shaikh Nida attended a workshop on basic tools in artificial Intelligence on 11th September 2024 organised by IGNITE life Skill Academy, Sacred Heart College, Thevara.
• Ms.Shaikh Nida Ahmed attended a national seminar on “Building a sustainable research ecosystem in HIE” on 28th Nov,2023 organised by FRC cell of St.Francis Degree College for Women.
• Dr. Kanchana attended National Webinar on “designing and implementing an effective curriculum and credit framework for undergraduate programs in higher educational institutions organised by Xavier board of Higher Education in India in association with Mount Caramel College, Bengaluru on 2nd August 2023.
• Ms. Malathi Varma attended a session “Lab to Launch” on 21st Sep 2023 conducted by NIPER, Balanagar.
• Ms. Malathi Varma attended a 2-day international conference- Trends in Biological Sciences: Impetus on Health organized by SRM University, Chennai on 12th, 13th October 2023.
• Ms Y.Vyshnavi attended online workshop-“Deep Learning in Genomics” conducted by Accubits Invent Pvt.Ltd on 30th December 2023.
• Dr.Kanchana attended one day National seminar on “Strategic Planning and Deployment in Higher Educational Institutions” on 17th August 2022 organised by IQAC of St. Francis College for Women, Hyderabad.

• Dr.Kanchana attended a National Webinar on Emerging Trends in Health Care organsied by Department of Biomedical Science, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli on March 8th 2022.
• Dr.Kanchana and Dr.Sony attended a Seminar on Copyright -Images and content on internet and its fair use in Education organsied by the Faculty Development cell, St. Francis College for Women, Begumpet on April 1st 2022.
• A webinar was organised for I, II- & III-year Biochemistry students on Feb 4th 2022 the World Cancer Day on Cancer… How can we protect Ourselves? by Dr.Ashish Chauhan MBBS MD Int Med Consultant Preventive Medicine & Adult immunisation Specialist Apollo Hospitals,Secunderabad,India.(160 students & 4 staff)
• On International Hepatitis day a Webinar was organised for 2nd and 3rd year students (159 participants) on July 28th 2021.The resource person was Dr.Janapriya M.B.B.S .
• All the staff attended a two days Faculty Development Program conducted by the Psychology Department of St.Francis College for Women on Basic Psychological counselling skills for Faculty on July 8th & 9th 2021 by Dr.Bro.Yuju Francis SG.
• Ms. Malathi attended a 5day e-workshop on LateX conducted by the Department of Mathematics, Gitam University, Bangalore held from 5th- 9th July 2021.
• Dr.G.Sony attended National webinar on “Therapeutic Applications of stem cells” on 4th september,2021,organised by Department of Biotechnology ,St Francis College For Women,Hyderabad.
• Dr.Kanchana,Ms.Malathi,Dr.Sony & Ms..Nikita attended National Webinar on "Spectroscopic Techniques : A Tool for Structure Elucidation" on 21st and 22nd Oct 2021 by Sophia Girls’ College (Autonomous), Ajmer.

Guest Lectures:

Guest lectures offer a platform for students to learn directly from Industry and Academic professionals who bring real-world experiences into the classroom.

• Ms.Shaikh Nida Ahmed Sharieff attended a guest lecture on Cancer by Dr.Chinnababu Sunkavalli,Clinical Director-Surgical Oncology, Yashoda Hospital on 7th Mar,2024 organized by the management of St. Francis Degree College for Women.
• “Career Guidance for Science Graduates”by Dr. Mir Zahoor Gul, Research Associate, Department of Biochemistry, Osmania University on 7th Feb 2024 100 students participated.
• Ms.Shaikh Nida Ahmed Sharieff attended the Global Leadership summit on 14th Feb,2024 in St. Francis college for women.
• “Hippo Signalling in Optic Fissure Closure” by Dr.Uma Neelathi on 8th September 2023 in online mode. Around 200 participants attended the webinar.
• “Cancer Biology” by Dr.Ravi Krishna Madala,Consultant Medical and Haemato Oncologist,on 20th Dec 2023.110 students attended this Session.
• Guest Lecture was organised for B.Sc. III year Biochemistry, M.Sc. Microbiology and M.Sc. Nutrition & Dietetics students on “Basic Mining of the Cell and professional advancements for life sciences” on 21st Feb 2023 by Dr.Raju padiya Assistant professor, BOS Chairman-Nutrition, Department of Biochemistry, Osmania University, Hyderabad. A total of 130 students attended the session.
• An online Guest Lecture was organised for the Biochemistry Students on the occasion of sickle cell awareness day on 17th June, 2022. Dr.Havya Polavarapu, Senior Gynaecologist from Sunshine hospital was the resource person. A total of 90 students attended the session.
• Guest Lecture was conducted for the Life Science GE students on Skin care by Ms.Akshatha Nayak, Community Manager, Unsweetened Beauty on 27th July, 2022 There were 220 participants.
• A Guest Lecture was organised for 2nd & 3rd year Biochemistry students on 28th July, 2022.World Hepatitis Day on the Awareness of Hepatitis by Dr. Prudhvi Krishna Chandolu.80 students attended the session.
• Guest Lecture was organised for 3rd & M.Sc Nutrition students on Crusade to cancer Awareness on Sep 19th 2022 by Dr.P.Satya Dattatreya,D.M in Medical Oncology, Director of the Renova Soumya Cancer Centre.
• A session was organised on Personality Development session and Menstrual Hygiene on 25th November,2022 at Capitanio hall.150 students attended the session.
• Guest Lecture was organised for B.Sc Life science students on Awareness on Endometriosis Dec 8th 2022 by Dr.Vimee Bindra Basu Gynaecologist, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. There were 150 students attended the session.
• A Guest Lecture was organised for the 2nd and 3rd year Life science and PG Microbiology & Chemistry students by Dr.Rajasekhar,Director of HelpBiotech on Dec 2nd 2021 about the Guidance for Competitive Exams.(480 participants).
• Guest Lecture was organised for all the three years of Biochemistry students on Effect of Hormonal Imbalances by Dr. Havya Polavarapu, Gynaecologist, Sunshine Hospitals on March 9th, 2022.There were 127 students.

Field Trips:

Field trips play a crucial role in enhancing the academic experience by bridging the gap between theory and practice, promoting experiential learning, and preparing students for the challenges of the real world.

• A Field trip to HCU was organised for final year students on 9th Jan 2024.Dr. Sony & Ms. Vyshnavi accompanied the students.
• Field Trip was organised for the final year students to BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus on Jan 5th 2023.
• A field trip was organised for the first- and second-year biochemistry students to NIN, Tarnaka Hyderabad. ICMR in collaboration with other esteemed national institutes like DRDO, CCMB, CDFD organised a national science week from 22 - 28th February 2022. The field trip was organised to observe the exhibits set for the occasion. 60 students attended the trip.
• An Educational Field trip was organised for the 2nd and 3rd Year Biochemistry students to the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Topics, Telangana State Forest Academy on Dec 13th 2021. (43 students & 2 staff).
