MCom Applied Finance
The Existing M. Sc (Finance) course has been revised and restructured as per the guidelines of UGC and renamed as M.Com (Applied Finance). A post graduate course in commerce, M. Com (Applied Finance) programme offers students a rigorous and intellectually sophisticated framework for application, analysis and decision-making in finance and its related areas. The course equips students to be placed in finance agencies (national, international and regulatory), not-for-profit organizations and any other organization where financial decision-making is important. The course offers a unique perspective on finance, investment management and analytics.
The programme closely reflects the real-world finance and investment environment, and focuses on the applied skills that modern employers are looking for. It is designed for students whose career ambitions are based on achieving middle-level and top-level finance positions with national and international finance and financial services companies. The programme delivers a blend of academic excellence, professional and practical skills, helping students build a skill set that will be highly valued by modern employers. The curriculum goes beyond regular classroom teaching. Guest lectures by practitioners, compulsory internships with financial agencies & companies, field trips, projects, seminars & classroom presentations give students plenty of opportunity to develop all the skills required to be employment-ready.
Objectives
The following are the objectives of this course
- To view the finance function as an integral part of, and the way forward in, implementing the strategic objectives of an organization.
- To understand how to measure and achieve the efficient use of financial resources.
- Study the necessary concepts, tools and techniques to be able to evaluate the value creation opportunities available to the organization.
- To gain a practical understanding of how risk and uncertainty can be managed through the use of financial instruments.
- To gain an increased knowledge of how financial securities and other transactions are valued in capital markets.
