Overview

The Hindi language is the second most spoken language globally, with nearly half a billion speakers, and serves as one of India's official languages, especially in the north. The Department of Hindi at the college fosters a love for the language, offering it as a second language across different streams. The department actively works to preserve and promote Hindi while providing students opportunities to showcase their skills through literary and cultural activities. Its goals include developing communication skills, instilling moral values, and educating students about various periods of Hindi literature.

Best Practices Adopted by the Department

Title of the Practice

Enhancing oral skills and active class participation through engaging activities.

Objective

To help students apply their learning in real-life situations and engage continuously in their education.

Challenges

Though confident in writing, students were hesitant to speak publicly. Activities like presentations, skits, and discussions were devised to help them overcome these inhibitions.

Best Practice Relevance in Indian Higher Education

Students express their views through activities such as street plays and debates, which are included in continuous internal assessments. This motivates them to improve their communication and expression skills, essential for their higher education journey.

Evidence of Success

Students enjoy participating, and even those who rarely speak in class engage enthusiastically. They benefit from learning through their peers’ presentations.

Resources and Challenges

These activities typically require minimal resources, as students often bring their own props. The main challenge is managing class size and the time needed for activities.
