St. Bartolomea Capitanio

Foundress of Sisters of Charity

St. Bartolomea Capitanio, deeply inspired by the life of Jesus Christ and responding to the needs of her time, founded the Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa (SCCG), in Lovere, Italy, in 1832 at the age of 26, along with St. Vincenza Gerosa. Known as the Sisters of Maria Bambina, they remain dedicated to education, healthcare, and faith formation, continually adapting to the evolving needs of society.

Today, 3,066 Sisters serve in 20 countries, continuing their mission with joy and compassion. The Sisters arrived in India in 1860 to begin the Mission of Charity. St. Francis College for Women is managed by the Sisters of Charity of the Secunderabad Province, who remain committed to empowering women through education rooted in faith, values and service.
