History/Public Administration/Political Science (HPP)

The B.A. program in History, Public Administration, and Political Science is a three-year triple major inter-disciplinary program that provides understanding of the basic themes, concepts, chronology and scope of Indian History that span distinct eras and World History through comparative approach. Knowledge of Public Administration develops insights into governance, policy implementation, and leadership skills, while Political Science fosters critical perspectives on democracy, constitutional values, and international relations. The program nurtures skills of enquiry, analytical thinking, research and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in civil services, policy research, NGOs, journalism, and academia, while also instilling ethical values, social responsibility, and a commitment to sustainable development.

What will you Learn?

Complex evolution of the Indian Civilization and recognize how political, social, economic, and cultural factors shaped the course of Indian national and regional history from its prehistoric period to the present day.

Historiography, Research methodology, Preserving and Organizing historical materials and cultural heritage.

Administrative principles, theories, governance systems and public policy in India.

Financial and personnel administration, conflict and environment management for effective public service delivery.

History of Western Political Thought and the basic concepts and theories of International Relations.

Conflicts in contemporary societies, global political issues and a history of Indian Political Thought.

Basic concepts and institutions in politics and the working of the Indian political system.

Career Prospects

  • Historian/Researcher – Conduct in-depth research, write, and contribute new insights to various fields of history in universities and research institutes. The course equips students with comprehensive understanding of research methodology, statistical analysis, and data interpretation essential for roles as research assistants in academic institutions and research organizations.
  • Archivist/Museum Curator – Preserve and organize historical documents, manuscripts, and other records for public and private archival institutions. Specialize in particular historical periods or objects, managing collections, and designing exhibitions in state/national/world museums.
  • Archaeologist – Research and excavate historical sites to understand past cultures and civilizations. Be a part of ASI, State Departments of Archaeology and museums.
  • Heritage Manager/Consultant – Work for organizations focused on the conservation and management of historic buildings and sites. Provide expertise on cultural history and historical contexts for various projects and organizations, like INTACH, IIT, AKTC, BHU, etc.
  • Public Administration – Opportunities in government departments, PSUs, regulatory bodies, private organizations, and policy think tanks with roles in planning, governance, human resource management, and policy research.
  • Content Writing and Editing – Pursue careers as editors for publishing houses, publishing assistants, or digital content creators, writing for websites, blogs, and publications. Work on editing academic texts or historical books.
  • Corporate Training – Specialize in soft skills and communication coaching, working as corporate trainers or communication consultants in various industries.
  • Civil Services – The program prepares students for civil service examinations and makes them adequately aware of the Indian political and administrative system necessary for stepping into a career in civil services.
  • International Relations and Global Policy – With a robust curriculum in international relations, students are well-prepared for careers in global policy, diplomacy, and international affairs, including roles in think tanks, research institutions, and NGOs.
  • Research and Academia – Through comprehensive training in political theory and research methodology, graduates are equipped for careers in academia and research. Opportunities to pursue higher studies, teaching and research positions in universities and institutes focusing on allied subjects such as governance, development administration, and public policy.
