Overview of the Course

Maths/Economics/Statistics(MES)

History Image

The B.Sc. Mathematics, Economics, and Statistics (MES) undergraduate programme is a multidisciplinary course designed to provide students with a solid foundation in quantitative and analytical skills necessary for understanding and solving real-world economic and statistical problems. This programme integrates the logical reasoning and problem-solving power of Mathematics with the theoretical and applied aspects of Economics and the practical tools of Statistics. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of key mathematical concepts such as calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, alongside economic theories related to microeconomics, macroeconomics, development economics, and public finance. At the same time, they are trained in statistical techniques including probability theory, regression analysis, sampling methods, and econometrics, enabling them to collect, analyze, and interpret data effectively. The course emphasizes the use of statistical software and programming tools for data analysis and modeling, making it highly application-oriented. Through a combination of theoretical learning, practical lab sessions, data-driven projects, and case studies, the programme equips students to analyze economic phenomena and make data-based decisions critically. It also fosters research aptitude, quantitative reasoning, and problem-solving capabilities. Upon graduation, students are well-prepared to pursue careers in data analysis, economic research, financial services, actuarial science, government agencies, and further higher studies in mathematics, economics, statistics. The B.Sc. MES programme bridges the gap between abstract mathematical theories and their practical applications in economic policy, statistical research, and data-driven decision-making, thus empowering students to contribute effectively to industry and academia.
