Overview

The Department of Sanskrit, established in 1959 offers Sanskrit as a second language in undergraduate degree courses. It aims to give information about language, literature, and culture. The department aims to promote the study and appreciation of Sanskrit, one of the oldest and richest languages in the world. As an ancient classical language, its relevance in the modern era facilitates the department to guide the students with ancient texts, in a modern context.

Preservation of Sanskrit texts: The department had visits to the manuscript library where the students could gain the knowledge of digitizing and preserving ancient Sanskrit manuscripts, making them accessible for research and education.

Sanskrit language courses : Offering short courses on Sanskrit language and literature can promote cultural understanding and appreciation.

Interdisciplinary studies: Integrating Sanskrit studies with other disciplines like philosophy, history, or environmental science can foster a holistic understanding of sustainability.
