Established in 1973 under the visionary leadership of Rev. Sr. Valeria D'Silva, the Department of Psychology at St. Francis College for Women has grown to become one of the most dynamic and sought-after departments in the Arts faculty. Rev. Sr. Valeria laid the foundation for Psychology as a scientific discipline within the college, introducing laboratory sessions and hands-on learning experiences that continue to be integral to the curriculum.

Our mission is to build a strong knowledge base that empowers individuals to understand and effectively cope with real-world challenges. Today, the Department of Psychology plays a vital role in shaping students who go on to contribute meaningfully to diverse sectors such as education, healthcare, research, and organizational consultancy.

We strive to provide our students with a deep understanding of human thoughts, emotions, and behavior. This is achieved through a blend of academic rigor, experiential learning, and practical application. The department is actively involved in organizing impactful workshops on suicide prevention, art therapy, training for first responders, which aim to promote emotional well-being and community connection.
